Guy Fawkes

This week we are learning about Guy Fawkes. Guy Fawkes is a celebration of bonfires, fireworks and lights. It is celebrated after Guy/Guido Fawkes' failed attempt to blow up parliament known as 'The Failed Gunpowder Plot of 1606'. Fawkes was a member of 13 English Catholics led by Robert Catesby who planned to kill King James and replace him with his own daughter Princess Elizabeth. In 1606 the group made their way into a cellar beneath the parliament and loaded it with barrels of gunpowder ready to blow. An anonymous note was sent to the king as a warning of their plans and soon Fawkes was captured on November the 5th, the day we celebrate Guy Fawkes night. We celebrate his capture even after 400 years.

RWC writing

In class we had to write about the Rugby World Cup and whether mixed gender teams should be allowed to play together. Here's my writing:

Should mixed teams be allowed to play in the
Rugby World Cup?

With over hundreds of thousands of viewers world wide it’s no secret that the Rugby World Cup is getting a lot of attention lately, but should mixed teams be able to play together? I don’t think so and here’s why:

Firstly, less people may watch the Rugby World Cup. After such a massive change it’s impossible to tell what reaction people may give. Some may hate it, others may love it. It’s too much of a risk to take as it could turn the RWC upside down entirely.

Secondly, Other countries may object to have mixed teams due to culture, religion or just can’t get skilled enough players. With 20 nations competing in the Rugby World Cup it would be highly difficult for countries to follow along and it may spell the end for some teams playing in the RWC.

And finally with a physical difference between female and male players it makes the teams slightly unfair as generally men are built stronger than women therefore it would be unfair for both to play together.

In conclusion I believe that mixed teams should not play in the Rugby World Cup 2019.

The Rosary

This term we have been learning about the Rosary. The Rosary is a Catholic prayer devotion which brings us closer to Mary and Jesus. It is mapped out on a long necklace with a cross at the end of it. Each bead or knot counts a prayer.

To pray the rosary you start with the Our Father, 3 Hail Mary's and Glory Be. Then you move on to the first mystery, 10 Hail Mary's and Glory Be. The second mystery 10 Hail Mary's and Glory be. Repeat until up to the 5th mystery. After the 5th mystery you finish with Hail Holy Queen, The Rosary Prayer and a big sign of the cross.

Map of NZ

This right here is a series of puzzle pieces that each create a map of New Zealand. We were given 2 pieces of paper where we wrote facts, summaries, and answered questions on the card. In the end they were assembled to create 4 maps of New Zealand. After we made more fact cards and stuck them next to the maps.

QR code project

QR code project

This week we had to choose 5 words relating to our recent wonderopolis reading, then we had to make a video explaining what the words mean and act them out. When we had finished the video we turned it into a QR code for people to scan and then watch.

Last week our class had to make a poster about the digestive system. Following on from when we wrote a detailed description on the digestive system, this is a task that requires us to use the information from the previous writing to draw the digestive system and the functions. The project could be done in teams so Sean and I decided to team up and create this beautiful diagram.

In class we had to draw out our own army suit. in this instance I chose to draw my character (how I draw myself) in military suits from layer 1 to 3.

Layer 1, a dust coloured uniform with pockets and leather knee and elbow padding.

Layer 2, a camouflaged jumpsuit made with hard material along with a bullet proof vest and goggles and helmet.

The 3rd and final layer has an extra thinner vest over the bulletproof one. keeping the camo and a gun to keep out unwanted house guests..Oh! enemies! I mean enemies!

Last Wednesday we made optical illusions using geometry and measurement. First we drew a shape such as a square or a pentagon, then using a ruler we drew the same shape but smaller and on an angle all the way until it came to the middle.

On Tuesday we made beautiful fence hearts with wool. Tui, Kakapo and Te kahu were all groups into teams to make a load of pretty wool and string hearts along the metal fence!

Shark Writing

Shark Writing

HI! I’m Ozzi and i’m a Blacktip Reef Shark! I have 3 friends, Marshall the Megalodon, Sean the sand shark, and Isy the great white. Today we decided to go up to the shallow areas for lunch. Caught a nice old woman on the harbour. Delicious. We used to have a pet angler fish called John. He hasn’t moved for the past few weeks. Ever since Marshall accidentally ate his tail he hasn’t been eating much, or anything. Come to think of it he’s also been sleeping upside down a lot. interesting , maybe he’s just hibernating. We’re not sure if angler fish hibernate though. The waves were rough today and I was nearly caught by some dumb humans who didn’t know how to use a fishing net. Barry the whale shark almost crashed into our reef. He’s terrible at navigating and he almost took out Sean. A massive group of tuna swam past us and were really tasty until some other sharks decided to chase them so we sat on the reef and watched two jellyfish battle it out for a starfish. Woke up the next day to some annoying ‘surf life saving’ boat trying to catch a human. They almost made me want to eat them. But I was too tired and besides, humans taste kind of bad and surf life saving boats are hard to bite. I even considered waking up Marshall because he can take it down easily, but he’d probably eat me if I woke him up. Today we decided to set john free. He didn’t look too good when we took him out of his cage but when we set him free he rushed (or floated either one) all the way to the top. It was sad watching john go but we know that he’s in a better place now. (possibly in the stomach of a whale though). Sean was arguing to Isy this morning about how our cave is WAY too close to the sea turtles path when they migrate and he wanted to move. So we kicked him out to a smaller cave next door and alas we were woken in the middle of the night by an angry Ms. Octopus who came in carrying Sean. All in all, we enjoy being sharks even if pets are set free, octopus don’t like intruders, and humans REALLY like shark fin soup...
