NAVIGATING IN THE WILD
Recently, Kakapo class were learning to navigate without phones or technology inspired by the novel ‘cuz’.
We learnt to use a compass and how to determine our location as if we were lost. Now it’s time to teach you about how to use a compass (pay attention this might be important!)
Try standing with your compass in your palm at about waist height. Now, point the fixed direction-of-travel arrow at an object or landmark. Then, twist the compass housing so the compass needle lies right over the orienting arrow. Make sure that the compass needle is pointing North at the top of the housing.
And now you know how to use a compass. Being able to use a compass is a good talent to have if you enjoy hiking and being in the outdoors.
